Is Kylo Ren more of an obsessive Darth Vader fan than a dark side acolyte? If we look at this picture published by the magazine Rolling Stone, we can see more of that moment when Adam Driver says in a mask altered voice "We will finish what you started." it seems that he is actually having a conversation with the burned helmet. We can also see Kylo Ren's full helmet. the back part reminiscent of Darth Vader's own helmet.
Keep reading after the break for more of the pictures and our observations. Rolling Stone has been known to publish Star Wars covers that later become collectibles. People still have the original cover from Episode IV. Many people have even gotten them autographed by the cast. This cover is very reminiscent of the one published in 1977.

In the images below, we can see Poe Dameron together with BB-8 talking to Finn. This scene happens right before a battle. We know that BB-8 is Poe's droid and that he is later seen as an X-Wing navigator. Does this mean he is back with Poe after our heroes' rendezvous with the resistance? I'm going to go on a limb here and say that this scene happens right before a big attack against the Starkiller base. After all, it does look just like the moments before the attack of the first Death Star.

The rest of the pictures are better shots of scenes we have seen in the the TV spots. What is interesting about these photos is how they have a certain resemblance with the original trilogy. As we talked about in a previous article, it is obvious to us that J. J. Abrams is trying to make us feel at home by retaining much of the original formula that made us fall in love with the franchise in the first place. We can clearly see in this images below what we explained before (read the article here): an old veteran from a forgotten war guiding our heroes. The blaster Han is handing Rey is not nearly as important as the lightsaber Ben gives Luke, but the scene is more symbolic in the sense of passing the torch to a new generation of Star Wars heroes.
The second one is a bit more of a stretch but still make us think of Princess Leia and R2-D2.
What do you think? is J. J. Abrams really using all these visual cues to give us a real sense of continuity? Is he trying to show that he is really respecting the source material (unlike with Star Trek), or he is over reaching and lacking originality?
We will know soon enough. Don't forget to visit www.starwars.com for more information. |
